Clean technology refers to any kind of technology that helps in reducing adverse environmental impact of human practices. Venture capitalists around the world have been actively investing in clean technology projects.
According to some estimates, in third quarter of 2008, total clean technology investments worth nearly $2.6 billion were made in North America, China, Europe, and India. This has been a record quarter for clean technology investments. Full year total has already exceeded previous year figure of $6 billion. By end of third quarter, total clean technology investments had reached $6.6 billion.
Clean technology investments in North America
A large number of venture capitalists are heavily investing their money on renewable fuels and other clean technologies in US. In fact, in third quarter of 3008, investments received by American companies totaled about $1.75 billion. That's as much as 67 percent of global investments for the same time period. Californian companies alone received about 42 percent of clean technology investments made in US. In Canada, clean technology investments amounted to more than $49 million.
Clean technology investments in Europe
In third quarter of 2008, European companies received clean technology investments to the tune of $472 million. This also includes investments received by Israel. Forty six disclosed financing rounds helped European companies to get 28 percent of global clean technology investments.
Clean technology investments in China
Chinese companies received $111 million from seven disclosed financing rounds. Clean technology investments obtained by China accounted for about 4 percent of global technology investments.
Clean technology investments in India
In third quarter of 2008, Indian companies got about $6.3 million worth of clean technology investments.
