Low-carbon economy

Low-carbon economy refers to an economy identified for its less emission of Greenhouse Gas (GHG). Carbon Dioxide is a well known greenhouse gas. Low-carbon Economy is also known as Low Fossil Fuel Economy.

Low-carbon economy is a significant pre-stage of Zero-carbon economy, which is an ideal state in any economy. Over the years, along with booming industries, emission of harmful gases and other toxic substances have also greatly increased. Human beings are responsible for the high accumulation of Greenhouse Gases, especially Carbon Dioxide, in the environment. This has affected the climatic conditions and resulted in global warming. Therefore, in order to avoid extreme case of adverse climatic changes, state of low-carbon economy is intended.

For a low-carbon economy, different strategies have been proposed such as Carbon capture and storage (CSS) and Nuclear Power. These are the first steps to achieve a low-carbon economy. Renewable energy sources should be the prime reason for moving to an LCE or low-carbon economy.

Low-carbon economy emphasizes on integrating agriculture, manufacturing, transportation and other power generating industries around technologies, which produce GHGs i.e. energy and materials. It intends to recycle and dispose off harmful wastes in order to reduce its effect.

The benefits of moving to a low carbon economy will be far more than expected. With the lower energy demand, supply would increase. Besides, energy would be highly diversified in this economy.

Some of the initiatives that can be taken in the primary, secondary and tertiary agriculture for a viable low-carbon economy include:

Primary Sector
Solar water heating system should be used; ripple control techniques should be employed along with heat recovery on milk vats and chemical substitute for water wash.

Tertiary Sector
Retail stores could feature roof-top solar panel rays. Low carbon-biofuels cellulosic such as biodiesel, bioethanol, and biobutanol could be used.
