Energy Efficiency – Cogeneration

Over the years cogeneration has become an important process for business establishments. It has both environmental and financial benefits.

The concept of cogeneration is an important one in context of energy efficiency. This term means simultaneous generation of electricity and heat for purposes of using them both instead of wasting heat. Cogeneration is also important from an economic point of view as it helps in reduction of operational expenses as well as cutting down emission of greenhouse gases on a global basis.

Process of Cogeneration
A certain process is followed in case of cogeneration. Fuels like natural gases are used for creation of cogeneration. Electricity is generated by burning fuels in huge gas turbines. Hot gases are emitted by turbines as a consequence of this process and they are normally sent to heat-recovery steam generators. Thus steam is produced for using in manufacturing processes.

Uses of Cogeneration
There are several uses of cogeneration. It is a useful way to create electricity that may be used for purposes like operating compressors, pumps and similar machines. Cogeneration has also been used for converting raw materials into products that can be used by consumers.

Users of Cogeneration
There are several leading oil and gas corporations that have been employing cogeneration because of immense benefits procured from this process. A major name in this regard is ExxonMobil, which is a leading oil and gas company. Cogeneration has enabled them to create more than sufficient electricity at certain locations and thus sell the additional electricity to other corporations and make profits.

Since, cogeneration requires lesser fuel, they are able to adhere to international standards of environmental protection. This has meant that less greenhouse gases have been emitted, which has resulted in lesser pollution.

Importance of Cogeneration
Cogeneration has become an extremely important process for modern day business establishments. Companies have been evaluating opportunities for cogeneration on a regular basis. Over years, cogeneration has become an important part of investments being made by these companies.
