Emission Standards

Increasing concern over pollution and its harmful effects have resulted in the formulation of emission standards. These standards help countries control the emission of harmful gases from automobiles and factories as well as power plants.

Emission Standards basically refer to the amount of pollutant that can be released into the atmosphere. These standards are not only applicable to automobiles, but also to factories, power plants and small sized equipments.

In the wake of global warming and increased awareness amongst nations to reduce pollution, Emission Standard has become extremely important. There are three international standards namely, European Emission Standard, Japanese Emission Standard and American Emission Standard. It is the European Emission Standard that is followed all over the world, including India. India, however, also has its own standards for regulating and controlling pollution caused by vehicles.

Europe:
EURO-I are those that should have been applicable from year 2000.
EURO-II- are those that should have been applicable from year 2005.
