Air Pollution

Air Pollution recognized as one of the main reason behind global warming. Air pollution has recently increased in level that can destroy the ecological balance of the environment.

Air pollution occurs due to emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas and other carbon gases in the atmosphere. Air pollution causes damage or discomfort to humans or other living creatures. Air pollution mainly occurs due to emission from automobiles and other industries. The main ingredient of air pollution, carbon dioxide is recognized as a significant pollutant, which contribute to global warming.

Major constituents of air pollution can be summarized as:
  • Sulfur oxides (SOx)
  • Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
  • Carbon monoxide
  • Carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs),
  • Ammonia (NH3)
  • Radioactive pollutants
Among all these Nitrogen oxides (NOx), Carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide (CO2) and Sulfur oxides (SOx) are the most significant pollutants. Carbon monoxide and Carbon dioxide (CO2) are carbon gases that are also known as green house gases are a matter of concern for the climate scientists.

In order to reduce global warming, several schemes have been introduced to cease air pollution. With the developing process of industries there has been an increase in emission of carbon and other type of harmful gases. Several developed nation shave signed an agreement known as Kyoto protocol, in order to reduce air pollution. This agreement awards carbon emission certificate for each reduced tonne of carbon dioxide emission. United Nations have also taken several significant steps to reduce air pollution. United States Clean Air Act is one of the special act passed by Congress in 1990 to control air pollution in the United States.
